Drury University Fusion Day

Hello from the International Admissions Office!

Here's a special look at Drury's Fusion Day!

What is Fusion Day?

Each April, the Drury community enjoys student research presentations and celebrates our Panthers' achievements. Students can present research posters, participate in a capstone panel, or give a Fuse Talk. Fusion Day also includes accomplished guest speakers. This year's alumni speakers were country music singer Matt Stell ('06) and retired U.S. Ambassador Karen Williams ('85), and the keynote speaker was Olga Custodio, the first Hispanic woman to graduate from the U.S. Air Force's undergraduate pilot training program.

Why do we love Fusion Day?

"My favorite part of Fusion Day is getting to see all the different posters and getting to share and learn so much in such a small amount of time." - Sean '25

"I love talking with students about their work and seeing them be confident and professional as they share their projects. These projects provide you a powerful advantage in your future career." - Dr. Beth Harville, provost

"I get to bring together my credentials. It's a special way to share my research." - Allison '24

"I always look forward to Fusion Day because it highlights the impressive range of projects that students take on each year. I love seeing students stand beside their posters and give clear, detailed answers to complicated questions." - Dr. Kevin Henderson, Chair of the Department of Languages and Literature

Posters: What are our Panthers learning right now?

This year, students presented over 250 posters on their original research and creative work. Many students shared their senior research, honors projects, or capstone work for their certificates. Visit Drury's social media to see pictures!

What can you learn at Drury? Let's take a look at one of our new programs: Engineering

  • Drury offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Electrical Engineering (EE). Both programs are led by ABET evaluators Dr. Bob Throne and Dr. Lorraine Olson. ABET is an organization that makes sure what you're learning in the classroom is accurate to the professional engineering world -- you are in good hands!
  • All Drury classes are hands-on! In the Engineering school, you will learn as you gain professional experience through labs and projects. Many classes offer free software access.
  • First-year students will explore both mechanical and electrical engineering before choosing their focus. No matter your choice, you can complete your degree in four years!

Capstone Panels: Interested in learning more about our certificates?

Certificate Capstone Panels introduce Drury's certificates and give students the opportunity to share their capstone projects, marking the completion of their certificate. Here is a brief look into a certificate that may interest you:

"Get Out, Plug In: Intercultural Connections" -- Are you interested in learning about cultural diversity? Would you like to work internationally in the future? This certificate can help you develop your foreign language skills while learning about cultures around the world. Students will learn how to communicate professionally in their chosen foreign language, which they will use in a study abroad experience.

For international students:

  • If your high school or secondary school classes were not taught in English, you can choose English as your foreign language in this certificate. Your experience here at Drury can also count as your study abroad trip!
  • If you are interested in learning another language besides English, Drury has many educational opportunities, study abroad trips, and scholarship opportunities.

Fuse Talks: Where can your passions and professional interests take you?

Your Drury Fusion allows you to explore your passions while also gaining professional skills. At Fusion Day, students can share their Drury Fusion experiences in a Fuse Talk. These presentations are similar to TED Talks.

This year, eight students presented on topics including scientific research, social justice, and true fusions of their hobbies with their professional interests.
